N Scale Trolley Parts
This section covers overhead and roof fittings for N scale trolley and interurban models. NTP1 are etched-brass pantograph poles, while NTP2 are the older-style trolley poles with a single wire contact shoe. NTP3 are the distinctive poles used on PCC cars, with a swivel base and a spring-tensioned head. All are cast in lost-wax brass for fine detail. They suit 1:160 models of North American and European prototypes. To fit, drill a 0.5 mm hole in the roof, insert the pole base, and secure with a drop of ACC. Gently bend the pole to the correct angle for your overhead wire.
NTP1 poles are best for cars with a modern appearance, such as the St. Louis PCC or the Boeing LRV. NTP2 poles suit older cars like the Peter Witt or a Birney, and can be used on freight motors or work cars. NTP3 are intended for PCC cars, but can be adapted to other streamlined designs. The etched brass is soft enough to adjust but holds shape once glued. For a working overhead, you can solder a fine wire to the shoe, but for static display, simply paint the pole dark grey or black. Remove any flash with a fine file before fitting.
These parts are designed for the modeller who builds from kits or kitbashes. They are not pre-coloured, so you can match your roof paint. The lost-wax process gives a crisp, clean casting that needs minimal cleanup. For a trolley pole, you may want to add a small loop of wire for the rope that lowers the pole. The parts are small, so handle them with tweezers. They are suitable for any N scale layout with overhead wire, whether you model a city scene or a suburban line. Use them as replacements for broken plastic poles or to upgrade a ready-to-run model.
