HO Trolley Parts
This section covers HO scale trolley and interurban detailing parts, starting with the HT-P4 pole base and the HTP-1 etched-brass trolley poles. The HTP-1 set includes two poles with the classic single-wire trolley head, suitable for most North American streetcars and interurbans from the 1900s through the 1950s. The etched brass provides a crisp, scale appearance; fold and solder the pole to the base, then attach to your car roof using a small amount of CA glue. The HT-P4 base is a separate casting that can be used with either pole set, allowing you to position the pole at the correct angle for your specific prototype. These parts are ideal for kitbashing or upgrading ready-to-run models, and they work well with brass or plastic bodies.
The HTP-2 set offers Form 11 trolley poles, a style commonly found on PCC cars and many modern light rail vehicles. These poles feature a more streamlined head and a reinforced base, making them suitable for cars operating on overhead wire with a grooved contact. As with the HTP-1, the etched brass requires careful folding and soldering; use a low-temperature solder and a small flux to avoid overheating the thin metal. The base is designed to fit a standard 0.040-inch mounting hole, but you can enlarge it slightly for a snug fit on thicker roofs. These poles are best paired with the HT-P4 base for a secure installation. They are particularly useful for modellers replicating the Boston, San Francisco, or Philadelphia PCC fleets, as well as European-style trams.
All trolley parts in this section are supplied as raw castings or etched sheets, requiring assembly and painting. Before installation, clean the parts in warm soapy water to remove any release agent, then rinse and dry. For etched brass, use a fine file or emery board to smooth the edges after folding. The cast bases may have minor flash; remove it with a hobby knife. Paint the parts with a primer suitable for metal, then apply your chosen roof colour—typically dark grey or black for most operators. These components are designed for HO scale (1:87) and will suit models of standard-gauge trolleys, interurbans, and light rail vehicles. They are not intended for N or O scale, as the proportions are specific to HO. For best results, test-fit the pole to your car before final assembly, adjusting the length if necessary to match your overhead wire height.
