G GUAGE PARTS
This section covers G scale (1:22.5 and similar) detail parts in lost-wax brass for diesel locomotives. The items are grouped by function: antennas (GA1), bells (GB1-GB5), hatches and horn parts (GH1-GH7), and lights (GL1-GL7). These castings are intended to replace oversimplified plastic details on ready-to-run models or to add prototype-specific features. Typical uses include upgrading an Athearn or Bachmann G scale diesel with a correct Sinclair radio antenna, adding a high or low hood bell to match a particular railroad's practice, or fitting a winterization hatch for cold-weather service. The brass parts are finely detailed and require careful removal from sprues with a razor saw or sprue cutter, then clean-up with fine files and sanding sticks. Fit will vary depending on the model; you may need to drill locating holes or shim with styrene to achieve a secure mount. These parts suit freelance or specific prototypes, such as EMD GP9, GP38-2, SD40, and Alco RS3 units, in G scale.
For bells and horns, the castings are solid brass and can be glued with CA or epoxy after the mounting surface is roughened. The GB1 high hood bell and GB2 low hood bell are for placement on the hood roof, while GB3 is a Peacock brake stand with wheel for the cab interior or exterior. GB4 is a side-mounted bell for the sill, and GB5 is a general-purpose bell. The GH1 three-chime horn kit includes a mounting base and individual chimes; you can assemble it to your preferred orientation. GH2, GH3, GH4, GH5, GH6, and GH7 are winterization hatches for various EMD and Alco models—these are thin brass etches that fit over the existing roof hatch openings. Preparation involves lightly sanding the roof area, applying a thin layer of canopy glue or CA, and pressing the part into place. For a secure hold, use a small clamp or tape until set. These parts are best suited for G scale models that have smooth roof panels; you may need to fill any existing recesses with putty first.
The light group includes Pyle headlights (GL1, GL2, GL4, GL5) and ditch lights (GL3, GL6, GL7). GL1 is a dual Pyle light for the front, GL2 for the rear, GL4 is a large single Pyle, and GL5 a rear single. GL3 are GP9-style ditch lights, GL6 are platform-mounted ditch lights, and GL7 are front ditch lights. These are cast with a lens opening; you can install a small LED or grain-of-wheat bulb behind them. For mounting, drill a hole in the shell or use the included bracket if provided. The brass can be polished or painted; for a realistic look, paint the housing with a matching color and use a clear lens. These parts are suitable for G scale locomotives from various manufacturers, including Bachmann, Aristocraft, and USA Trains, but check dimensions against your model. All parts require basic modeling skills: cutting, sanding, and gluing. They are not pre-weathered; you may want to apply a primer before final painting.
